There have already been countless players on the move in the transfer portal in 2024. Below, we are going to be taking a look at 10 transfers to watch for the 2025 season. This includes some history on the player, their potential at fantasy relevance, and perhaps even some long-term predictions for the next few years given their new threads.
Fernando Mendoza, Quarterback, California
Fernando Mendoza is a four-star prospect who is coming off a strong season for California. He threw for just over 3,000 yards and 16 touchdowns on a 68.7 percent completion rate. He’s got a frame that schools would die for, standing at 6-foot-5 while weighing 225 pounds. Many people have viewed him as a top-tier quarterback talent in the portal, and some interested schools were Georgia, Miami, and Indiana.
As for fantasy relevancy, Mendoza has the potential to get into a strong program and develop his skills. He might not be an immediate starter, but his fantasy relevance will only grow in a top-tier school with the right pieces around him.
John Mateer, Quarterback, Washington State
John Mateer is another quarterback, similar to Mendoza. Mateer was one of the biggest names in the transfer portal because he could air it out and get the job done with his legs. He threw for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions, but adding on his 178 carries for 826 yards and 15 additional touchdowns puts him over the top. Aas of right now, he’s verbally committed to Oklahoma.
Mateer going to Oklahoma was huge. He’s likely to lock in as their starter straight away, and his rushing ability makes him fantasy-relevant regardless. This transfer should only give him more freedom to make plays and be part of a winning situation.
Eric Singleton Jr., Wide Receiver, Georgia Tech
Eric Singleton has had back-to-back good seasons with his Georgia Tech football squad, but he wanted a change in the portal. The budding star wideout piled up 1,468 receiving yards and nine touchdowns with the team over his first two seasons with them. However, after hitting the portal, he found his new home by signing with the Auburn Tigers.
Singleton joining Auburn is huge for fantasy and long-term success. He’s getting partnered with Jackson Arnold, another transfer for the school. This could be a budding combination for the next few years, and drastically improve the trajectory of both their careers.
Duce Robinson, Wide Receiver, USC
Duce Robinson came into college as the nation’s number one overall tight end. Since joining up with USC, things have changed. He was converted into a wide receiver, which he is now full-time, and over the last two seasons, he has produced 39 receptions for 747 yards and seven touchdowns. His ability to play both positions made him highly valuable, so it didn’t take long for offers to come in. He’s since committed to Florida State.
His fantasy relevance comes in the form of his ability to play multiple positions. His knowledge of the tight end position allows him to be a strong blocker and pass catcher in multiple locations. There’s a chance we see him all over the field for a Florida State team that really struggled offensively in 2024.
Zachariah Branch, Wide Receiver, USC
Some might think that it was surprising to see Zachariah Branch hit the portal. The former five-star prospect had 78 receptions for 823 yards and three touchdowns over the past two seasons. He’s impacted special teams, which has resulted in him getting more offensive opportunities over time. He had 58 kick returns for 953 yards and two touchdowns given his chance. Anytime you can get a playmaking talent like this, you go for it. Right now, he’s not committed to anybody, though it’s hard to imagine that power-conference schools will ignore him.
Branch is one of those players that has a tremendously bright future for fantasy relevancy. It is a safe projection that he’ll be involved in any offense that he commits to, but he’s also going to be used on special teams to create more plays. Any school will want the ball in his hands, which is wonderful news if you ask me.
Nic Anderson, Wide Receiver, Oklahoma
Nic Anderson broke out in 2023 after he had 38 receptions for 798 yards and 10 touchdowns as a redshirt freshman. When attempting to follow that up this season, he had a season-ending quad injury after only one game played. Now that he’s hit the portal, he’s found a new home with the LSU Tigers. LSU is notably a school that has developed some of the best receivers in the NFL over the past couple of seasons. This is an intriguing fit.
The season-ending injury hurts, though he showed what he could do as a redshirt freshman. Joining a school that is becoming known for developing top-tier wideouts will very much improve his fantasy relevance and long-term success, both in college and when he turns toward the NFL.
KC Concepcion, Wide Receiver, NC State
KC Concepcion came in as a true freshman two years ago and posted 839 yards and 10 touchdowns. In his follow-up season, he dipped in stats, posting just 53 receptions for 460 yards and six touchdowns. Despite the drop in production, he’s still a sought-after wideout on the market, and he’s yet to commit anywhere. He could want to play at UNC now that Bill Belichick is around, though Alabama and Texas A&M have targeted him as well.
Concepcion is a bit of a risk considering how much his numbers dropped this season. Luckily, there’s fantasy potential given the schools that are targeting him. He could go a long way when partnering with Belichick at UNC or possibly at Alabama. As of right now though, his long-term projections are a little murkier.
Wayshawn Parker, Running Back, Washington State
Wayshawn Parker was a big-time portal target for many schools. The freshman standout running back was stellar throughout his first year. He rushed for 735 yards and four touchdowns while also showing a capability for getting involved through the air, hauling in 11 receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown. He’s dynamic, explosive, fast, and physical, and just committed to Utah to become their top running back in 2025.
There’s no question that Parker will demand fantasy relevancy immediately. He’s super young and shows all the traits you want in a long-term running back. Now that he gets to go to Utah and be their top dog in the backfield, he’s going to show what he can do each and every week. I love Parker in 2025.
Ahmad Hardy, Running Back, Louisiana-Monroe
With the Warhawks rebuilding last season, Hardy’s strong season went by the wayside. He had 237 rushes for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns. Eight of his games played last season saw him pass the 100-yard mark and two of them saw him break 200. Not to mention that he broke 94 tackles in the process, with Ashton Jeanty being the only other back to break more. He has since committed to Missouri to become their lead back.
The simple fact that Hardy almost took Louisiana-Monroe to a bowl game with the roster they had shown you all you need to know. He was constantly fighting for extra yardage and succeeding and should hopefully get some more help with Missouri. Whatever time he takes getting adjusted to this offense will be worth it, as his talent pops off the screen.
Max Klare, Tight End, Purdue
Many believed that Max Klare was the top portal tight end available. He caught 51 passes for 685 yards and four touchdowns with Purdue this year, leading the team in all categories amidst a winless season in the Big Ten. The physical pass catcher was targeted by a plethora of schools including Michigan, Louisville, and Texas A&M, but he ultimately decided to take his talents to Ohio State.
Klare strikes me as somebody who wants to win. With Purdue, some of his numbers weren’t as impactful considering their struggles as a team. With Ohio State now, he can be used in a variety of ways. Ohio State is a much better offense that can use Klare as a blocker or receiver in a bunch of different sets. I don’t see immediate fantasy production with Ohio State, though the development he can have with the school is where his value skyrockets.
