NFC SOUTH FREE AGENCY FRENZY

  1. New Orleans Saints
The Saints haven’t had a franchise type quarterback since Drew Brees retired. Now they get that in Derek Carr who has been above average for the Raiders his entire career. This is a great move for the Saints as they have talent around him such as Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, and Chris Olave. In a weak division this team should be seen as the favorites to win it and make it to the playoffs. They also signed one of the best red zone running backs in Jamaal Williams. In the draft they should look to go heavily on the defensive side of the ball to improve their pass rush and defensive backs.
  2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay still has some top talent on offense after losing Tom Brady to retirement and could push the Saints for the division title. That is assuming that Baker Mayfield can play well enough in this offense to move the ball better than Brady did last season. Not many big signings have occurred so far for the Bucs but they may have enough to compete for a playoff spot. The area where this team needs help the most now is on the offensive line after losing two key players from last year. They should use the draft to bolster that spot and try to find a reliable pass rusher.
  3. Carolina Panthers
The Panthers actually remained fairly competitive last season after trading their star player, Christian McCaffrey. Some big moves this offseason were getting Miles Sanders to be their every-down back and getting pass catchers Adam Thielen and tight end Hayden Hurst. The big question for this team is what they will do with the first pick in the draft after they acquired it from Chicago. Carolina undoubtedly has their sights set on a quarterback but whether that is C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, or Bryce Young will determine how this team does this season.
  4. Atlanta Falcons
It appears that the Falcons are content with going into the season with Desmond Ridder as their starting quarterback. In four games last year he didn’t throw for the most yards but had a high competition percentage and threw two touchdowns with no interceptions. The Falcons’ season will depend on how much he has improved as the team didn’t do much else to improve on their seven-win season last year. If anything they could be worse off now. Jessie Bates was a big signing to help their secondary but in the draft Atlanta will likely go defense with their eighthoverall pick or add another wide receiver to pair with Drake London for Ridder to throw to.
