For anybody who’s participating in Campus To Canton fantasy football, this list is for you. Below are going to be five quarterbacks that are worth stashing in your leagues if they’re still available. Or maybe your league is just starting out and you want to draft some under-the-radar quarterback names in the later rounds. Whatever the case may be, these guys are expected to hold some good value in 2024 and beyond.
Nico Iamaleava, Tennessee
Nico Iamaleava had to wait for his turn under center due to Tennessee fielding other starting-caliber quarterbacks. When he finally did get an opportunity to show what he was made of, he shined. Going against the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iamaleava helped Tennessee cruise to a dominant 35-0 victory. Over the course of the entire season, he threw for 314 yards, two touchdowns, and didn’t turn the football over.
He was just a freshman in 2023, and now he’s got an even larger chance to shine with more control of the offense. Many anticipate him being one of the better quarterbacks in the nation, though it could also take some time. Given that he’s still young, there could be concerns about his experience level and adjustment. As of right now, the potential outweighs any negative.
What’s also impressive is his frame, standing at 6’6”, 206 lbs. He’s a tall and imposing presence under center who can easily see over his offensive lineman. This could help with his composure in the pocket, and ability to find open targets. As for his fantasy football production, he could immediately become a household name in 2024 given the opportunity he has in this offense.
Brady Cook, Missouri
Brady Cook is an interesting name in the college fantasy football world. He had a very strong 2023 season in which he threw for 3,317 yards, 21 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. He’s improved his numbers each season that he’s been in college and gets to return to Missouri once more with some talented weapons out wide such as Luther Burden.
Cook has the potential to be a big playmaker in fantasy right now while in college, but this is a massive year for him moving forward as well. Missouri’s running back Cody Schrader went into the NFL during the offseason, so much of the team’s offense will center around Cook. If he can rise to the challenge and take over this roster, then there could be some hope for some level of production at the NFL level.
He’s worth a stash if he’s currently available, this upcoming college football season alone should give you enough value. Sure, there are concerns about his long-time production, especially if he underperforms in 2024, though he deserves the benefit of the doubt after his strong 2023 campaign.
Conner Weigman, Texas A&M
Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman hasn’t put up much production in college so far, though hasn’t been given much of a chance. In his first season in 2022, he threw for 896 yards, eight touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Last season, he threw for 979 yards, eight more touchdowns, and two interceptions. Overall, he’s shown some level of potential, just not enough to warrant any insane excitement for fantasy football yet.
Part of the reason for you to stash him is because this is a big year for him and his career. There’s a new head coach in town, Mike Elko, and it’s already been reported that this new system should include a quicker offensive attack. This doesn’t always guarantee success, though it could speed up his development as a passer.
He’s got weapons around him on offense despite losing star receiver Evan Stewart to Eugene. Simply put, this should be a solid season for Weigman, and one that will let everyone know what type of quarterback he’s going to be in the future. If he’s still available, he’s certainly worth stashing and holding onto for this season and beyond. There’s genuine potential there, even if concern is equally as high.
Avery Johnson, Kansas State
Kansas State had to watch quarterback Will Howard leave the school in the offseason, but there’s still optimism for their future. That optimism is in the form of Avery Johnson. He didn’t have a large role, but it was expanding throughout the year. Every time he was on the field, something electric happened for Kansas State’s offense.
He had 479 total passing yards with five touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also added numbers on the ground, rushing 52 times for 296 yards and seven additional scores. Given that Kansas State is now entirely free to build the offense and scheme around his strengths, this is shaping up to be a potentially huge year for him.
His success as a rusher partnered with his ability to avoid turnovers early on make him seem like a prime stash. Kansas State as a school could fly under the radar, which in turn ups the value for Johnson even more. Given that he’s coming into his sophomore season, there’s a lot to like about his game.
Miller Moss, USC
Caleb Williams was leaving USC to go into the NFL. That was essentially guaranteed a year ago, and USC was aware of that. They knew that they would be in the market for a new quarterback moving forward, but they were caught off guard with how they found it. USC competed in the Holiday Bowl and started their backup Miller Moss, who completed 23 out of his 33 passes for 372 yards and six touchdowns as the Trojans destroyed Louisville.
Almost immediately after the game, USC sat back and allowed other quarterbacks to transfer to new destinations. This left them with Moss as their future starter, and it’s a decision that they felt confident in given how they didn’t go after other names like Cam Ward and Will Howard.
Moss isn’t going to be the next Caleb Williams, but he will get a chance to prove himself as a capable starter and NFL-ready quarterback in due time. There’s a risk for him to fall below expectations because we’ve only really seen him have one huge breakout game. However, he’s worth stashing in case he becomes the next big thing out there for the Trojans. If they were confident enough to hold onto him over anybody else, they feel like he’s something special.
